Kitchen Measuring Conversions
These conversions are handy to know around the kitchen - especially
when you do not want to dirty up additional measuring containers. Note
the conversion of volume to weight (such as 1 cup = 8 oz) is approximate
because 1 cup of lead weighs more than 1 cup of flour.
By Volume
1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons
16 tablespoons = 1 cup
1/4 cup = 4 tablespoons
1 pint = 2 cups
1 quart = 4 cups
By Weight
2 tablespoons = 1 ounce
1 cup = 8 ounces
1 cup = 250 ml
1 kg = 2.2 lbs
1 cup = 1/2 pint
1 teaspoon = 5 ml
1 tablespoon = 15 ml
1 liter = 35 ounces
I have come across this scenario many times:
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 cup chopped walnuts
The difference is: the first example calls for 1 cup of walnuts then chopping them. The second calls for chopping walnuts until a cupful is attained (which may be 1 1/4 cupfuls of unchopped walnuts) .
