True Texas chili has no beans.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground round
- 1 pound dried red beans
- 2 med. onion, chopped
- 4 TBL chili powder
- 3 TBL shortening
- Salt, to taste.
Preparation
Rinse and sort beans. Let soak overnight in plain water. Drain, put in water and cook on low until soft. Add 2 TBL chili powder and a little salt. Set aside.
In a skillet, saut� onions in shortening until soft. Add beef, rest of chili powder, and salt. Cook until meat is slightly brown; stir occasionally. Add enough water to cover; reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes or longer.
Add meat to bean pot, stir in, and cook for a few minutes. Serve hot.
